Get ready to be transported to Caracas, Venezuela and experience a repertoire of traditional Venezuelan music. Come along to this unique evening and hear songs written by Cristobal Soto for the mandolin, harp and cuatro, three string instruments which play a crucial role in Venezuela's traditional music.
Christobal Soto lived in Venezuela from 1974 until 1996. A self taught musician, he followed his family's path in Venezuelan traditional music. Soto plays many instruments, but is an outstanding mandolin player and composer. He was a founding member of bands including "Los Anaucos" (1976-1979), "Cañón Contigo" (1980-1987), "Ensamble Gurrufio" (1985-1998) and "Recoveco" (1996-2004). He has collaborated with the Encyclopedia of Music in Venezuela, and has published many articles about Venezuelan music in France, Japan and Venezuela.
You'll also have the unique opportunity to hear other Venezuelan musicians who are based in London, including pianist Clara Rodriguez and clarinet player José "Chebeto" Requena. The aim of this experience is to bring a taste of the musical gatherings which are so loved in Venezuela to London and to gain an insight into spirit and tradition of this often secret South American country.Read Less
