The West End of London is a glamorous and vibrant part of town, famous for theatre, shopping, history and culture. If you want to see all of the city’s top royal sights, soak up unique London culture and explore its green parks and historical backstreets then this is the tour for you.
The tour starts from the London riverside cycle hire centre at Gabriel's Wharf and heads into the quaint red-brick back streets of Waterloo. The first stop is the Old Vic Theatre, a world class venue recently revived by Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey. Following the alluring smell of fresh street food into Lower Marsh Market you'll enter Leake Street, a hidden tunnel covered in ever changing colourful street art.
Time for some fresh air in Archbishop's Park before admiring the traditional Tudor architecture of Lambeth Palace, the Archbishop of Canterbury’s official residence next to the river. Crossing to the north of the river you'll be transported back in time as you pedal through lanes of traditional red brick houses to the yard of Westminster Abbey School, one of England’s oldest and most exclusive schools. In this quiet courtyard take a moment to marvel at Westminster Abbey and its impressive legacy of royal coronations, weddings and burials.
From there to Horse Guard’s Parade, a historic sporting ground in Henry VIII’s time for jousting tournaments, and more recently the 2012 Olympic Beach Volleyball. Cruise through the soothing greenery of St James’ Park until reaching Clarence House and Buckingham Palace to see if the Queen or her family are at home. There’s even time to catch the famous Changing of the Guard on certain days.
A leisurely cycle through Hyde Park to Mayfair, where the super rich reside and designer shops line the streets. The lively shopping area of Carnaby Street has long been a centre for the cool crowd, a favourite haunt of the mods and hippies of the 1960s and the stomping ground for the iconic British bands The Who and the Rolling Stones. With music on our mind you'll head to Soho, the party capital of London before pedalling through the atmospheric alleyways of Chinatown. On the way to Covent Garden, pass through the heart of theatreland, where you will see the Royal Opera House, home to the Royal Ballet.
There’s time to take in some refreshments and enjoy some street performance in the market piazza of Covent Garden before heading back to the river and across Waterloo Bridge.
