This Funzing Experience:
Does the pharmacy of Amazonia have the potential to cure all the main diseases that are to this day causing suffering to human kind? Is the erosion of the rainforest is the erosion of ourselves? Medicinal Plant enthusiast, Sian Luxford, will be delivering this talk which also focuses on connecting people to the Amazon through an interactive experience & includes a free mayan cacao taster, to highlight importance of preserving the sacred knowledge.

We will be taking a journey into the jungle and unravelling the visionary art of Anderson Debernardi, Pablo Amaringo & Margaret Meed as well as depicting symbols within ancient textiles that relate to sacred plants such B.Caapi, San Pedro, Ayahuasca & Datura.

You will also learn about ceremonial art within ancient Incan civilizations, such as the Shipibo-Konibo, Yawanawa, Ashaninka & Huichole Tribe. The role of scared pattern can be seen as a core connection to the plant spirit's of the jungle, and a gateway into the roots of ourselves. These geometric design's are believed to hold meaning beyond the physical, to represent health & harmony.

Venue: Arnos Vale Cemetery, Totterdown

Doors: 7pm / Talk starts: 7.30pm.

Sian's focus is to bring together Botanical Pattern & Herbal Medicine, by replicating the remedies as a design. Her work is strongly influenced by the beauty and delicacy of the Amazon rainforest, bringing attention to the extraordinary flora & fauna it holds. She graduated with a BA in Surface Design from London College of Communication, University of the Arts specialising in textiles, natural dyeing and printing.

These designs are mostly on silks or paper, often using natural pigment. From 2013, she's been travelling between the UK & Peru to learn from the diversity of their culture. Sian is also working on three external projects including collaboration with Kew Gardens.
