New in town: Cinetalks arrives to London!
An evening made up of a thought-provoking, fascinating talk and a movie, combined.
Any car journey that requires “two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers” is likely to have the wheels come off, but should be a trip of a lifetime.
Come and enjoy the ride from the comfort (and safety) of a cozy cinema seat, and find out if the road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom?
The epic film of Hunter S. Thompson’s classic book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is introduced and discussed by psychedelic parapsychologist Dr David Luke, labelled “a real life Dr Gonzo” by Will Self, and “a psychedelic Indiana Jones” by an author much less well known. Buy the ticket, take the ride, and explore Psychedelics & Beyond... because when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
David's research focuses on trans-personal experiences, anomalous phenomena and altered states of consciousness, especially via psychedelics, having published more than 100 academic papers in this area, including five books, most recently Neurotransmissions: Essays on Psychedelics (2015) and Talking with the Spirits: Ethnographies from Between the Worlds (2014).
He has studied techniques of consciousness alteration from South America to India, from the perspective of scientists, shamans and Shivaites, but increasingly has more questions than answers.
