This Funzing Experience:

Part of our Veganuary Talks Series

More than a billion animals are killed for food in the UK every year. Most of these animals – more than 90% - are raised in intensive conditions on industrial-scale farms, otherwise known as factory farms.

Drawing on her experience of visiting dozens of British factory farms, coupled with an expertise in animal behaviour, Dr Toni Shephard will outline common factory farming practices and the impact they have on animal welfare. She will explain how factory farming is not only responsible for the greatest amount of suffering on our planet, due to the vast number of animals affected, but also for the greatest individual suffering as these complex, sentient beings are denied everything that would give their life meaning.

Attendees will also be able to experience life as a factory farmed animal via virtual reality headsets featuring Animal Equality’s award-winning iAnimal films. This powerful, immersive experience could change the way you look at meat forever!

Toni Shephard is UK director of Animal Equality, an international animal protection organisation working to expose and end the suffering of farmed animals. Over the past 25 years she has worked for numerous animal rights organisations and campaigned passionately for animals around the world. She has filmed inside dozens of factory farms and never ceases to be shocked by the cruel practices farmed animals are forced to endure. The knowledge that most people are inherently opposed to animal suffering and simply do not know how badly farmed animals are treated, coupled with the growing number of plant-based foods, gives her hope for a factory farming-free future. She also holds a PhD in animal behaviour.
