This Funzing Experience:
Join ex-Mi5 agent & former whistleblower Annie Machon, for a fascinating talk - where we discuss whether we can trust our media.

Propaganda and fake news have always been a staple of our civic discourse - first documented in the writings that have come down to us from the Roman Empire and magnified ever since the printing press was invented in the 15th century. It has been a powerful tool in the hands of whichever elites happen to have been in power.

So why is fake news the "new" hot topic? Because of the new "printing press" - the internet - which since the 1990s has not only been monetised but also weaponised by the current elites around the world.

Fold that all in with the Edward Snowden disclosures about global panopticon surveillance in 2013 as well as the ongoing Russiagate case in the USA and the Cambridge Analytica case in the UK, how can we trust
what we read online?

And how can we trust that we can see the full story online when the "fake news" orthodoxy is being used as an excuse by the social media giants to weed out dissident voices?

Venue: Lighthouse Bar & Club

Doors: 7pm / Talk starts: 7.30pm.
