This Funzing Experience:

Extraterrestrials, fraud, murder—some people will keep drinking the kool-aid no matter what. But, why? What sort of person gets recruited to cults?

Come meet Criminologist Jennifer Rees for a fascinating talk, and discover how you could be recruited.

Jennifer will explore the process of ‘Brainwashing’, including the process of ‘Lovebombing’; discussing approaches such as ‘Flirty Fishing’. Jennifer will relay astonishing psychological research which provides insights into conformity and obedience – how many of us are really susceptible to external manipulation?

Plus Jennifer will uncover:

- How common are cults in the UK?
- The ‘missions’ cults cite themselves as having, as well as looking at the research into Conspiracy Theories and the psychological lure of ‘knowing’ a 'truth'.
- Why cults often end in violence.
- The them vs. us mentality
- How similar is the process of recruitment to radicalisation – is it correct to use the term ‘brainwashing’ for both? Jennifer will explain the current research into terrorists; what kind of person becomes a terrorist? And what is the process?
