In this talk, I’ll explain the four essential components of Mental Toughness and how you can use them in your personal or professional lives: Commitment, Control, Challenge and Confidence.

  • How to relentlessly pursue your Commitments and stick to your goals
  • How to exercise Control over yourself and your outcomes
  • How to engage with the Challenges and changes that obstruct your progress
  • How to remain Confident despite self-doubt and the criticism of others.
These are wonderful and exiting times to be alive. Change means opportunity, adventure and taking some calculated risks.

We often forget how resilient humans are; how adaptable and resourceful we are. Our own families have triumphed over greater adversities than those we face now. There is much we have learned. How will you make the future work for you and your descendants? Will you actively respond to the challenges ahead? Will you creatively engage with future demands or seek refuge in past dogma? Will you take responsibility for your life or will you or blame everyone else?

Resiliency is not about bouncing back from setbacks, it is about adapting
and moving forward. You will not be the same. You cannot go back in time. Events change us but we are not fixed or determined in our responses to adversity. We have freedom to act and responsibility for our actions.

In this talk I will look at approaches to Resilience, Mental Toughness and
Hardiness from Philosophy, Psychology and Psychotherapy. My aim is to equip you with the skills, methods and philosophy to meet the challenges of life.

The future is unwritten. Come with me if you want to live.
