This Funzing Experience:
More sex takes place in our heads than our beds. Sexual fantasies are a normal accompaniment of intercourse and masturbation and relate more to creativity than pathology. They are a powerful source of excitement based on hopes and memories. Being relatively uncensored, and tailored to our personal kinks, fantasy tells more about our real desires than actual behaviour.

Fantasies are investigated by self-report instruments, such as Dr Wilson's own Sex Fantasy Questionnaire (SFQ), widely used in research and forensic psychology, and confirmed by physiological measures like the penile plethysmograph. Light is thrown on issues like male-female differences in the content and meaning of fantasy life and the brain areas differentiating normal and variant themes. Join Dr. Glenn Wilson, author of The Secrets of Sexual Fantasy, for a talk that discusses the considerable scientific evidence that has amassed in recent years.

This research is not trivial. Dr. Wilson looks at the question of how to tell when fantasies become potentially dangerous and how they sometimes tip into criminal acts, with examples of how his expert testimony was called upon in a number of high profile court cases.

Dr Glenn Wilson is one of Britain best-known psychologists, specialising in personality and sexual behaviour. He has been Visiting Professor at Gresham College London, as well as several American institutions, including Stanford University, University of California, Los Angeles and the University of Nevada, Reno. He is author and co-author of some 33 books, including Love and Instinct and Born Gay: The Psychobiology of Sex Orientation (with Q.Rahman) as well as some 150 articles in scientific journals. In collaboration with colleagues at the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences he produced a theory of the evolution of EEG brain oscillations and has shown how brain activity can be used to identify sexual preferences. He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society and makes frequent TV appearances in news and documentary programmes. The most recent series on which he was expert consultant and commentator was Stalkers Who Kill (CBS Reality).
