Why are there no Christmas trees in Dickens famous story? Why are there turkey and geese and why is one so much better than the other? Why doesn’t Bob Cratchitt have the day off automatically? And why was Scrooge born in the countryside? For that matter, why is Christmas held in December at all?
These questions will be answered mid-performance in this show/lecture. We’ll have the greatest Christmas story ever told, and we’ll have the story of the story: where the traditions come from, why some of them were included, some excluded and why, at the time of writing, no English child would even have head of Santa Claus.
