Meet King's College London iGEM:
We are a group of King's College London graduate and undergraduate student researchers working on gene therapy to improve the method of delivery into somatic (non-reproductive) cell, whilst competing in the iGEM competition.
iGEM (https://igem.org/Main_Page) is a non-profit international genetic competition that revolves around engineering functional DNA or RNA fragments called BioBricks. This year King's College London is taking part for the second time, after successfully obtaining a silver medal in the last competition. We are excited to have started undertaking our gene therapy project, gaining inspiration from interviews with top consultants in their fields.
Considering the social and ethical implications of emerging technology is crucial in science so we are dedicated to hosting talks and workshops to open a discussion about some of the key questions facing the industry. Legislation and law cannot be passed without taking into account the views of scientists and the general public, so we are opening up these channels of communication.
