I am passionate about helping more people access the benefits of dance and movement, no matter their age or experience. I started my own ballet journey at age 19, in a small, drop-in beginner class and eventually went on to complete all my ballet grades and undertake vocational work. I am currently studying for my Advanced 1 RAD exam and will shortly commence my Teacher Training. My body is able to do things I never thought possible, I used to dream about getting into splits or having an arabesque line! I never imagined I’d be able to start pointe work, do fouettes or leaps. But the human body is incredible - it can learn so much.
My love for ballet has led me on a journey of assisting ballet classes for over 5 years and assisting with inclusive dance programmes, including SLIDE and Icandance. I’m passionate about making ballet more accessible to adults who have always wanted to learn but never had the chance. It really is never too late!
When I was learning I found it hard to find drop-in classes that really nurtured adults and developed technique in the same way as children’s classes or pre-professional training programmes did. I was lucky to find a studio who was willing to enter me into exams but a lot of my learning was also done alone, studying the body, muscles and the best ways to improve. I love helping other people realise they can achieve so much with their bodies and inviting them to enjoy the beauty of moving to music. It is certainly possible to learn as an adult, to progress and most importantly to enjoy yourself. Everything I have learnt I am passionate about sharing. Having started ballet as an adult beginner, I can recall the difficulty of learning terminology, steps and understanding. It is this that helps me to connect with students and explain things in simple and relatable ways.
Walking into a ballet class was the best gift I could give myself, trying something new and getting better has developed my self-esteem and confidence, I have learnt to love and respect my body and have made some friends for life. If you aren’t sure if the class is right for you, or have any questions or concerns, please feel free to send me a message. I am happy to answer any questions/ or have a general discussion. I hope to see you there! Happy dancing 😊
