Meet Dr Nikhil Chaudhary :
Dr Nikhil Chaudhary is a Lecturer in Evolutionary Anthropology and Human Behavioural Ecology at Cambridge University.
Having studied managerial economics at LSE he went on to complete his MSc, PhD and post-doc at UCL analysing human behaviour from an evolutionary perspective. His thesis and further research is based on over a year of fieldwork with the BaYaka Pygmies, a hunter-gatherer tribe residing in the rainforests of Northern Congo. This work examines the evolution of human social behaviour, in particular the origins of friendship, cooperation, attraction, culture and religion.
He is currently working on a project in collaboration with the
Royal College of Psychiatrists analysing the prevalence of psychiatric
disorders among hunter-gatherers, in order to evaluate the extent to
which these are 'diseases of modernity'.
