Meet Duncan Dick :

Duncan Dick is the Editor of Mixmag, the world's biggest dance music and club culture magazine. Originally from a small village near Glasgow, he completed a degree in law and a post graduate diploma in journalism - during which a short period interning at Mixmag convinced him to move to London to try to become a freelance journalist. A few years of taking any and every assignment offered followed, including being flooded out at Glastonbury, running about dressed up as a giant spliff in Amsterdam and Jesus Christ at Global Gathering, interviewing the great and the not so good of the DJ world everywhere from Red Rocks in Colorado to St Petersburg in Russia, appearing on BBC World News to describe mephedrone as 'very moreish' and generally exploring the changing landscape of the global club and dance music culture, often in fancy dress.

Joining the permanent staff in 2004, Duncan worked his way up to Features and Deputy Editor before fulfilling his dream of becoming Editor in April 2015. The Editor's day to day job involves selecting with the team who and what to cover in each issue, editing the feature section and overseeing every facet of the magazine from pictures and design to copy and captions. In November 2016 he also oversaw a complete redesign and relaunch of the magazine, which continues to evolve in terms of content and aesthetic.
Most importantly, he's witnessed the huge changes in dance music and club culture of the past 15 years from the very frontline - from the rise and fall of everything from dubstep and minimal to new rave and EDM, to the growth of the electronic music festival, the devastation wrought on London's club scene and Berlin's ascension as the centre of techno. This talk is about the tunes, the clubs, the festival, the DJs, the trends and the cycles that he's seen in that time - and a look at what they tell us about where we are headed in the future.

Mixmag is a British electronic dance and clubbing magazine, published in London, England. Launched in 1982, the magazine covers dance events, and reviews music and club nights.
