This Funzing Experience:

Are we using social media to be social, or are we using it to satisfy our own vanity? is this causing problems for our offline, real life relationships with those around us? What exactly is comparison syndrome? Join writer & lifestyle expert Ellie Pilcher for a deeper look into the negative effects that can be caused by our love of Social Media.

In the digital era more and more of us are addicted to our phones and social media, but for reasons that are incorrect. We think we’re using them to be social and to develop meaningful, lasting relationships with our friends and family but for the majority of us what we’re actually doing is creating the opposite for of relationships. We’re becoming anti-social.

Social media is a germsite for comparison syndrome which is causing many users to become less likely to socialise online, and in person, and increases general unhappiness with each use.

This talk will examine the popular social media platforms which are supposed to be promoting sociability and encouraging friendships, but are potentially failing in both. I’ll be arguing for and against the daily use of social media and its effects on children’s growth, mental health and our defining relationships in the digital era overall.

Venue: Lighthouse Bar & Club, Shoreditch

Doors: 7pm / Talk starts: 7.30pm.

*Please see venue website for admission (age restrictions) or accessibility information. Our talks may be filmed for promotional purposes.
