Meet Akemi:
I teach Japanese cookery in Sozai Cooking School in London and have orchestrated many gastronomic events. My expertise for Japanese cooking stretches from the art of healthy Japanese home cooking to the top quality gastronomic experience. I was trained in Tsuji School of Culinary Arts in Osaka, Japan, who offers one of the the most authentic Japanese culinary courses in the world.
My enthusiasm for gastronomy originated early in my childhood in Sapporo, where enjoying the spoils of wild vegetable foraging and sea fishing were regular family activities. This drove my understanding of the importance of using the freshest, highest quality ingredients together with exquisite taste pairings in Japanese food. I was hired as the Tina Turner’s private chef when Ms Turner moved her base to the capital in the late 20th century (!) and I was on C4's Sunday Brunch teaching sushi making to Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer.
Besides being an accomplished cook and presenter, I am also a writer and photographer. I contribute to Japanese and British media with food articles and recipes. I recently started cooking in MEGUMI's supper club in Notting Hill Gate where the focus is in the Japanese regional cuisine.
