This Funzing Experience:

Come and discover what shibari is all about in one very complete hands-on class in the UK’s first and only shibari studio!

From its origins and history, to human anatomy and body mechanics, to learning the ABC’s of rope handling and flow, this class is designed to get your creative juices flowing and inspire your body, mind and soul.

Learn to connect with your partner in ropes, learn to handle and manipulate the body, and learn to tie all the basic shibari patterns as well as how to freestyle in rope!

## Program

# ‘A Brief History of Shibari’

Discover all about the art of Shibari, from its origins to its evolving aesthetics and purposes in a short but complete powerpoint talk. Tea and coffee provided.

# ‘The Body In Ropes’

Rope is not about rope. It’s about people! In this section of the day you'll be taken through several body manipulation exercises, first without any rope at all and then also with rope.

# ’Connecting In Ropes’

When we speak about connection in ropes, we are speaking about using the ropes to convey emotions, feelings and intent. You cannot be taught how or what to feel, but your hosts can teach you how to express yourself through proper control of the ropes. This means learning about ‘tension’, ‘flow’ and ‘rope handling’.

# ‘Tying’

Ropes are a language. Before making poetry you must learn your ABC’s. Here you will learn how to speak with rope, build harnesses using some of the fundamental ‘rules’ and aesthetics of Shibari.

# ‘Shapes’

Now that you can speak Shibari, and have are familiar how the body works, let’s create some beautiful shapes on the floor that you can play with! Your hosts will demonstrate how you can tie legs, arms and torso using the techniques you learned in the previous section, and you will be able to copy these or make up your own shapes and ties. You'll also cover the basic ‘box tie’ or ‘takate kote’ - the quintessential shibari tie.

# ‘Safety & Anatomy : Taking Care Of Your Hardware and Your Software’

Rope bondage is a lot of fun but it also comes with risks, so let's stay safe. You'll cover safety and anatomy information and also talk a bout some of the emotional and psychological impacts of doing rope.

# ‘Closing Circle’
Thoughts, feelings, wishes, revelations, let’s share before going home!

Who can come to this class? This class is open to all levels and complete beginners. No rope needed. No experience needed. No partner required. There are ‘Two Together’ and ‘Individual’ tickets available so you can come on your own or with a partner. If you come on your own you will be able to pair up with someone else on an individual ticket during the class and you will be switching throughout the class (tying and being tied).

What should I bring and what do I wear? There are ropes you can use during the class and a communal kitchenette, fridge and microwave. Tea and coffee are free but you should bring your food and snacks (there will be plates and cutlery you can use).

People usually wear comfortable clothing like yoga or dance attire. Loose fitting clothing is not advised and also jeans can sometimes feel a bit restrictive to move around in and difficult to tie on.

What is the class like? Your hosts know it can be intimidating to step into a rope bondage class so the classes have been created to make you feel welcome, accepted and comfortable.

Anatomie Studio is an inclusive female-friendly, kink-friendly, LGBTQ+ friendly space welcome of people of all colours, genders, orientations and background. Their events are friendly, welcoming and educational.

Who teaches this class? The class is taught by several people, namely studio owners Fred Hatt and Anna Bones as well as 'House Cats' JessicaWabbitt, Sophia and MnR, other studio teachers and on occasion by visiting teachers from out of town.

How much does this cost? £80 per couple/pair | £50 per person. If you'd like to book a Two Together ticket, please email team@funzing.com and you'll be sent the link to the reduced price tickets (per pair).
