Feast or Famine: The Psychology of Eating
- Exact online details will be provided after booking
About this online talk:
While many around the world are starving, people in Western countries are increasingly over-eating, at considerable risk to their health. Why is this happening? How can we adjust our habits to control our eating behaviour and protect ourselves from becoming dangerously overweight. Diets seem almost inevitably doomed to fail in the long-term but science-based measures are available.
Equally problematic are over-reactions taking the form of anorexia, binging with bulimia, and body dysmorphic disorder, tipping many sufferers into depression and self-harm. To what extent, does idealisation of thinness in the media contribute to dissatisfaction with body weight and eating disorders?
Dr Wilson, who has himself researched eating styles and body dysmorphic disorder, discusses modern research into these issues and describes the success of some new treatments that have been developed to address such problems.
