Persuasion is more than just flowery and charismatic speaking it's skill like any other which can be developed with practice!
In this 4 hour Masterclass delivered by club founder Michael Pautsch and Coach Paul Carro;l we will be exploring: The aspects of debate that is most personal to each speaker. Delivery. We will be focusing on the skills that speakers use to convince an audience of a position and most importantly call them to action! Whether that means voting, purchasing or agreeing to move forward. We will introduce you to the real world delivery of 2 types of rhetorical argument Ethos and Pathos with a focus on how we can deliver them not just with argumentation but how applied public speaking skills can bring someone into any point we make.
This workshop for debaters and speakers of all skill ranges will cover the causes of public speaking anxiety, the exercises we can use to find our voice for delivering a speech and the applied rhetoric skills developed from years of speaking experience.
What to expect over 4 Hours
12:00 - Introductory exercise
12:15 - Intro to rhetoric focusing on Ethos (Speaker credibility) & Pathos (appeal to emotion)
12:45 - 15 minute drinks break (lunch orders placed here)
13:00 - Exercises:
- Tone of voice control
- body language control
- understanding an audience
- Single point speeches
14:00 - Lunch break
14:45 - Rhetoric rehash
15:00 - Practice debate (including 15 minute prep)
15:45 - Coach feedback
16:00 - Head down to the bar for a post workshop chat.

Meet Your Coaches
Paul Carol is a speaking and presentation trainer specializing in impromptu, short-notice speaking and handling Q/A’s. He was also founding President of 104 Debaters a Toastmasters group focusing on debate.
Michael is a sales and recruitment specialist focusing on the training and management of both individuals and sales teams. He has succeeded in launching sales campaigns for a series of household brands across the UK including Virgin Pure, Gousto Recipe Boxes, The British Heart Foundation and The Royal British Legion. By night Michael is the founder of Debate London, London's fastest growing debate training platform for professionals connecting debate coaches with the public.
