Hi.. After years travelling the world in a career in international education, I decided to put roots back down in my beloved area of East London and swap from Higher Education t... More Info »
This Funzing Experience:
Just 20 minutes from Central London, between Canary Wharf and Stratford on the Jubilee Line, another 'untold' London exists..The neighbourhoods around the old Royal Docks.

Named after Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, and King George V, and created between 1855-1921, this part of Docklands is rapidly regenerating as part of post-Olympics 'New' London..

Join a history walk of this area the other side of the River Lea in East London through the prism of the many disastrous events that frame its history.

If you're interested in secret London, looking for hidden photo opps, like a bit of tame urban exploration, or simply enjoy a walk in new territory, this is for you..

You'll see the regeneration developments of the last few decades: Emirates AirLine, ExCel Centre, City Airport, the Thames Barrier, University of East London, and the London Regatta Centre, as well as the huge residential developments taking place as you explore the remaining Victorian relics and vanishing industrial heritage of the area.

Along the way, discover tales of disasters, industrial-age relics, hidden tales of social reformers, and plenty more as we explore 200 years of history and happenings and find out how the Industrial Revolution, the Blitz, and recent regeneration projects have shaped the area.

The walk takes approximately 3 hours. The tour will go ahead unless forecasts suggest heavy rain/wind. Remember to dress for the weather and wear shoes you know you'll be comfortable walking in for a few hours. Read Less
